Arewa is a Hausa language term for north, one of the cardinal directions. Its popular usage in contemporary Nigeria sometimes suggests a northern Nigerian regionalism or proto-nationalism. In both Nigeria and Niger Republic, Arewa is the name of very specific historical entities: in Niger and Nigeria a pre-colonial state, and in Nigeria a small local government region.

AREWA YOUTH FOR LIBERTY (AYFL) Condemns DAPPMAN’s Actions, Declares Full Support for Dangote Refinery

The Arewa Youth for Liberty (AYFL) strongly condemns the recent actions of the Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMAN) against the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals Company. We view this as an act of sabotage and outright hostility toward the Nigerian people, who stand to benefit greatly from the refinery’s efforts to reduce fuel prices and provide massive employment opportunities. Dangote Refinery has invested heavily in the growth and development of Nigeria’s oil sector, including spending over ₦3 trillion to acquire trucks that will ensure nationwide distribution of petroleum products at reduced costs. Rather than commend and collaborate with Dangote Refinery in its efforts to ease the hardship caused by rising fuel prices, DAPPMAN and its allies, including NUPENG, appear determined to frustrate these positive strides.
