45 ABU STUDENTS to complete their studies in CHINA

VISIONARY

LEADERSHIP TRICKLES

It all started when the federal Government of Nigeria went into discussions for a $12 billion agreement with one of the worlds largest civil engineering companies, the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) in a bid realize the transformation of the existing poor transport infrastructure in Nigeria which has been a major economic bottleneck.

This is what gave birth to the ground breaking joint program agreement between Ahmadu BELLO University (ABU), China state University (CSU) And CCECC. Please Note that, Of the seven Nigerian universities with reputable Engineering programs that were shortlisted for possible selection by the Federal ministry of education including UI, UNILAG, OAU, and UNIBEN. Only ABU Zaria was selected, naturally I must say.

It won’t be inappropriate at this point to share the story of the Chinese foreign ambassador, Mr. Wang Yi who visited ABU earlier this year. He said three former Nigerian ambassadors to China were around to receive him at the airport upon arrival and the three of them were products of ABU Zaria. He visited a few ministries and one or both of either the minister or permanent secretaries in all of these ministries were again, ABU Zaria products . That’s not all. He visited six performing northern state governors for the agricultural development mission. The six of them are alumni of Abu Zaria. Safe to say the bid had already won itself.

90 students in 400L civil and mechanical Engineering were shortlisted, based strictly on merit. CCECC officials were around in ABU Zaria to interview these students. A final selection of 30 civil engineering students and 15 mechanical engineering students was made for the 3”+2 joint program to complete their degrees in Railway Engineering and Automation and control Engineering respectively.

By the end of this program these 45 students would be awarded with two degrees each. B.Eng civil engineering ABU and B.Eng Railway Engineering CSU or B.Eng Mechanical Engineering ABU and B.Eng Automation and Control Engineering  CSU as the case may be.

These young lieutenants have just hit the road from ABU this morning. we believe they would champion the revolution of the not only the Nigerian transportation sector but also that of Africa in the nearest future. Please do well to remember them in your prayers.

Let me use this opportunity to congratulate these students once again. You are there to make a difference. You are there to make your parents proud. You are there to make ABU proud. Your are there to make Nigeria proud.

Bon voyage!
