In the north, their leaders are untouchable
By Haruspice
In the north, their leaders are very lucky; they give no account to anyone and the citizens never see anything wrong with them.
See, a state came under the attack of mad killers and 42 people were blazed in fire - the state has a governor, deputy, speaker, lawmakers, chairman, councillor and traditional leaders- guess what? To date, I'm not sure any of the mentioned has visited the infamous area yet these are they people voted for!
In the North exists all the heads of security agencies, their people jubilated when they were announced. Have you seen their appointments translating into a secure region? Of course not, but they live fat and comfortable and yet get the hailing and ululation of their people. Very lucky leaders you have in the north. Once in power, they disconnect from their people and continue to live a new life of non-accountability.
You see the north, their leaders are very lucky, that is why no one dares question the aloofness of their leaders but look up to Abuja for the solutions that stare them in the face. Besides the physical violence, northerners suffer governance failure. That is why their governors will leave them bare without the necessary tools of survival. No pipe-borne water, no electricity, education is in rot so is the health sector. Before the tragedy of extreme violence, the region has been battling violent leadership.
The northerners excuse their governors and look up to Abuja, when Niger State was almost taken over by terrorists, the senators representing the state cried out to the security authorities for intervention. And that worked as the state is relatively peaceful today. The senators from Sokoto, Katsina and Katsina have remained deadly silent to the carnage in their areas.
What is Kogi doing differently that they keep recording victory against the bad guys? The north should ask Yahaya Bello!
In all of these, Buhari will carry the larger blame because he is the leader of the nation. When things go bad, it's expected he makes them right no matter the method it takes. When plateau boiled beyond unimaginable degree, Obasanjo deplored an unusual measure for an intractable situation; he declared a state of emergency and Plateau enjoyed peace until now. The president should be told that the citizens of Nigeria look beyond their governors, they see him as the man they elected to fix things right. The way he pampers the governors is the reason the governors are not providing the needed governance to their people. A president doled out bailouts to state, security votes governors, unceasing FAAC allocations yet the people live in choking poverty and the president remains mute?
Protesting against insecurity by citizens is the best way to call attention to what has befallen the north, I will join this kind of call but not just anywhere but to government houses in the north. Besiege most peacefully the entrances that walled our governors and demand immediate solutions to our problem. They should feel the heat and act in the manner expected of them. Once the people demand for action, they will rush to Abuja and search for the elusive solution to the problems in the north.
Buhari and the northern governors must secure the north with whatever it takes.
Frankly musing
