2023: What is the sin of North Central, Nigerian Youths Remain Resolute, Focused On Yahaya Bello Presidency

Image
For everyone following the recent political development in Nigeria, it is no longer news that there is a grand plan to Zone the Presidency to the South while the North Central of Nigeria was asked to produce the National Chairman of the Party. The question that has been on the lips of many Nigerians since the decision was to asked what is the sin of the people of the North Central Zone of Nigeria. Without overstating the obvious, it is a known fact that the North Central Part of Nigeria has played a major stabilizing role in the country. This Zone without mincing words had never had the opportunity to be democratically elected. It is a known fact too that this zone in recent times have shown to have men with the capacity and competence to lead the country to the promised Land. This decision by the APC certainly has come with a bad side as it is the thinking that the decision is that of a few who have always held the country back. For example, the INTER-TRIBAL ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA has...

Strike: NANS presidential aspirant, Bello Ishaq urges FG, ASUU to find middle ground

Image
  •       Says students should not be the sacrificial lamb A leading presidential aspirant of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Comrade Bello Ishaq has urged the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to find a middle ground urgently and avoid making students the sacrificial lamb in their disagreement. Ishaq made this statement following the announcement of a one-month warning strike by ASUU which claimed the FG has not fulfilled some of their promises to the Union. “This is another sad period for the Nigerian students as ASUU has announced a one-month warning strike over what they called failure of the FG to fulfill its promises made to the Union. “Whatever the disagreement is between the ASUU and the FG, the student demography should not be the sacrificial lamb. This is even as we are just recovering from the effects of the recent months-long strike by ASUU and the COVID-19 lockdown that led our va...

Kaduna: Former SDP chairmanship candidate defects to APC

Image
A former chairmanship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Kaduna State, Mallam Ibrahim Tijjani has announced his defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Tijjani who was the chairmanship flagbearer of the SDP in Sabon Gari in the recent Local Government election said he took his time and made consultations before reaching the decision. It would be recalled that the young politician stepped down for the APC candidate build-up to the election. “I hereby make public my decision to move to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) from the Social Democratic Party (SDP). I've taken my time and made consultations before reaching this important decision,” Tijjani said in a statement issued on Sunday announcing his defection. “Many of my brothers and friends in the APC have been making moves to attract me to their fold to build our community together as a young leader given that they are in government. So, I've met with important stakeholders of the rul...

The Feasibility of Igbo 2023 Presidency (Part 1)

Image
By: Sani Danaudi Mohammed Sixty-one years after Nigeria has become a sovereign state, it has yet to manage, very effectively, the cultural diversity that defines it as a nation. And this explains why, in spite of its independence, Nigeria still battles with overt representation imbalance. In effect, this ugly scenario has fuelled agitations from those who feel short-changed and marginalized by being denied access to power within the leadership arrangements of their home country. The emergence, following the independence of 1960, of the first and the only Prime Minister of  Nigeria, Sir. Abubakar Tafawa Balewa and the then Governor General, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe (both of blessed memory) was not different from the zoning arrangements in the current democracy. Then, both the north and the south were well represented in the national corridors of power. In 1979, the late President Shehu Shagari had, as his Vice, the late Dr Alex Ekwueme to balance the north and the south power zonin...

2023: Memo to APC, PDP on youths inclusion

Image
By Ibraheem Abdullateef On the eventful Boxing Day 2021, the Nigerian media was awash with my statement of appeal to the two biggest political parties in Nigeria, All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on the review of nomination form fees for office seekers under 35 years old in the 2023 elections, to deepen inclusion, and strengthen national democracy. 43 days later, none of these parties have made any official statement on the matter. We must sustain the tempo until the cause is achieved.  The review of nomination form fees by both APC and PDP is urgent to strengthen our democracy, encourage diversity, and foster youths' inclusion in politics and leadership. It is absolutely unhealthy socially, economically, and politically to retain the same table used in 2019 for the 2023 elections.  In the 2019 elections, the gubernatorial expression of interest and nomination form sold for N1 million and N20 million respectively in the PDP. Reports also s...
