CALL FOR RESIGNATION OF THE FEDERAL FIRE SERVICE BOSS ABDULGANIYU

Controller General,

Nigeria Fire Service,

FCT-ABUJA.

Subject: Petition on Poor Welfare of Personnel and Misconduct Within the Nigeria Fire Service

Dear Controller General,

We, the Visionary Young Nigeria Leaders Initiatives, write this petition to express our grave concerns and dissatisfaction regarding the alarming state of affairs within the Nigeria Fire Service. Our organization is deeply committed to the welfare and well-being of the citizens of Nigeria and those who diligently serve our nation within the Fire Service.

It is with immense distress that we have observed multiple issues plaguing the Nigeria Fire Service, including:

1. Poor Welfare of Personnel: The men and women who serve in the Fire Service put their lives at risk daily to protect lives and property. Unfortunately, their welfare appears to be severely neglected, with inadequate compensation, subpar living conditions, and inadequate access to essential facilities and resources. The dedication of these brave individuals must not be disregarded, and they deserve better treatment and support from the institution they serve.

2. Award of Illegal Contracts in contravening the procurement act: We have received credible reports of irregularities and alleged corruption surrounding the awarding of contracts for various interventions and recent purchase of fire trucks equipment within the Fire Service. Such malpractices are not only illegal but also hinder the efficient functioning of the organization and undermine public trust in the institution.

3. Nepotism in Posting of Officers: The practice of nepotism, where personnel are posted or promoted based on familiar or personal connections rather than merit and competence, which many officers worth the  has become disturbingly prevalent within the Nigeria Fire Service. This not only demoralizes hardworking officers but also undermines the efficiency and professionalism of the institution.

4. Allowing Family Interference: It has come to our attention that members of your family have been interfering and influencing your official responsibilities within the Nigeria Fire Service is disturbingly common. This undermines the principles of meritocracy and professionalism, while also compromising the ability of officers to carry out their duties without undue influence.

In light of the above grievances, we, the Visionary Young Nigeria Leaders Initiatives, demand the following actions to be taken immediately:

1. The immediate resignation of the Controller General of the Nigeria Fire Service, as the individual responsible for overseeing and addressing these issues. The lack of appropriate action on these matters indicates a failure in your leadership and a disregard for the welfare of personnel.

2. An official apology from the outgoing Controller General to the office of the President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for the gross mismanagement and negligence that has occurred under your watch. This apology should be published in three national daily newspapers  also extend to the dedicated personnel of the Nigeria Fire Service, whose trust has been breached.

3. An independent investigation into the alleged irregularities in the procurement process and the awarding of contracts within the Fire Service. If any illegal practices are uncovered, appropriate legal actions must be taken to ensure accountability and transparency.

4. Implementation of a merit-based system for posting and promotions within the Fire Service to promote professionalism and encourage diligent service.

5. Strict measures to prevent any family interference most especially your wife in the official responsibilities of personnel, ensuring that all decisions are based solely on merit, competence, and the best interests of the institution and the public.

We trust that you will treat this matter with the utmost urgency and seriousness it deserves, and we hope that appropriate steps will be taken promptly to rectify these issues and restore the integrity of the Nigeria Fire Service.

Please acknowledge receipt of this petition and inform us of the actions taken to address these concerns within 5 working days from the date you receive this mail.

Sincerely,

Zakariyau Hashimu
