Press Conference Statement
Ladies and Gentlemen of the Press,
We have called this press conference today to address recent allegations made against Dr. Otunba Adejare Adegbenro, the Acting Director General of NATCOM, and to set the record straight.
First and foremost, let me categorically state that the allegations leveled against Dr. Adegbenro and his team by the suspended Director General Baba Muhammad Agaba are baseless and unfounded. It is clear that this is an attempt to tarnish the reputation of Dr. Adegbenro and the hardworking team at NATCOM. We stand firmly against any attempts to blackmail or defame individuals who are committed to serving their country with integrity.
Dr. Adegbenro has dedicated himself to the advancement and success of NATCOM, and his efforts have been commendable. Under his leadership, NATCOM has made significant strides towards fulfilling its mandate, and we are optimistic that with his continued leadership, the commission will reach even greater heights.
Regarding the recent arrest of Dr. Adegbenro by the Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT) of the Nigeria Police Force, we wish to clarify that this arrest is based on false allegations and unsubstantiated claims. Dr. Adegbenro is a man of integrity, and we have full confidence in his innocence. We call for his immediate release from detention and for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding his arrest.
Furthermore, the allegations of fraudulent activities, impersonation of government officials, and involvement in gun-running are entirely fabricated. NATCOM operates with the highest level of transparency and accountability, and any insinuations otherwise are malicious and misleading.
We urge the public to remain calm and refrain from jumping to conclusions based on sensationalized reports. We trust in the legal process to uphold justice and ensure that the truth prevails.
In conclusion, we reiterate our unwavering support for Dr. Otunba Adejare Adegbenro and the entire team at NATCOM. We call on the President to approve the bill that will further strengthen the commission's mandate and enable it to continue its vital work in combating arms proliferation and pipeline vandalism.
Thank you.
