SABON GARI LOCAL GOVERNMENT'S LEADERSHIP AND POLITICS IN SHAMBLES? PART 1
SABON GARI LOCAL GOVERNMENT'S LEADERSHIP AND POLITICS IN SHAMBLES? PART 1
The political atmosphere in Sabon Gari Local Government Area of Kaduna State is becoming something else, it has started becoming war of words, it's quite embarrassing that majority of the so called support, campaign, etc. Groups as they were called cannot even convince an individual to realise the capacity and capabilities of their candidate.
Notwithstanding, our youths are going out of settings just for their own selfish interests, I have a few questions for my compatriots which is worth pondering and deliberating on, it's high time we practice politics without bitterness, practice politics with an ideology that will bring development to every nook and cranny of Sabon Gari Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Elected officials work for us, and will be our voice when it comes to issues of poverty and justice — such as girls’ education, clean water, human trafficking, or response to war and conflict — what do you want to say?
You have the power to refocus on conversations toward the things that genuinely matter — issues that will be affected by decisions in the next four years.
Can you justifiably answer the following questions;
Have you ever asked your candidate such questions?
(a) Globally, 59 million children between ages 5 and 11 are out of school – 30 million of these children are girls and half of this number can be attributed to conflict and fragile states. Do you see the benefits of education programs globally and if so, how do you think you can support this legislatively?
(b) Preventable deaths of children under 5 have nearly been cut in half since 1990, yet the budgets for maternal and child health programs are often targeted for cuts in the appropriations process, considering the fact the state government boldly said on media that from pregnancy to birth of a child up to a stage where the child became 5 years of age, all his/her medical bills are free but unfortunately women and children aren't catered for in our health institutions. Do you support these programs, and if so, how will you ensure funding, provision ofbresources and insfrastructure, constant supervision continues to be a priority?
(c) Programs such as the current federal government struggle towards making agriculture a priority in Nigeria, making available food for the country and to the extent of exportation and rapid increase in our GDP via agriculture, the Future have a history of strengthening Nigerian relationships around the world and building self-sustainability for small-scale farmers. Do you see value in these programs and what do you see as the benefits in continuing programs such as these and also how can you contribute towards making sure that small scale farmers in our communities benefit from such programs?
(d) In our Communities not all of us are privileged to go to school, and also all or 95% of job opportunities provided for the people are for those that goes to school, but there are fellows out there which due to some life situations, weren't able to go to school, and such unavailability of jobs for them led most of them to drug abuse among other vices, what legislative policy do you have in mind in providing job opportunities for them?
(d) Girl child education isn't taken seriously especially in our Hausa Communities, parents consider their education as waste, what policy can you pursue towards making awareness among parents and if possible, providing scholarship opportunities for girls to study, especially in the medical line?
(e) In recent years Congress has become more partisan and ideologically polarized, with narrow majorities that make party government problematic and with fewer centrists available to help build bipartisan coalitions. It's has been a tradition in Nigerian legislature that it's either you convince them or join them. How do you intend to work with this new Congress?
(f) What structural changes—if any—would you seek in our political institutions and processes to improve governance and to help achieve your policy ambitions for your constituency and Nigeria as a whole?
If you haven't asked such questions, try ask in a polite manner, deliberate and get to conclusions, because what we need in Sabon Gari Local Government Area of Kaduna State is quality representative, we need someone who will pursue policies that everyone in Sabon Gari either wealthy or poor will benefit and shall live to remember the struggles of that quality representative, that's why the legacy of Late. Hon. Alhaji Muhammad Saleh (Annur) Will never be forgotten by the people of Sabon Gari irrespective of party affiliations.
As Election time approaches, less than a year, pray that respect and values come to the forefront. Pray that candidates are given the will to talk about issues first and resist the temptation to attack others. Pray that all political candidates across the country would remember the poor and vulnerable, and that those who are elected would take with them a message of justice to the halls of Congress and also pray that those elected are shall be the best option for the people of Sabon Gari and Nigeria as a whole and also give maximum support, critique where necessary, accolades when due.
