Members of a group known as Northern Students Support For Atiku yesterday petitioned The senator representing kaduna central and request Inec to withdraw his certificate of return at Abuja, They demanded that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) reverse the issuance of a certificate of return to Senator Uba Sani who was declared the winner of the recent Kaduna Central Senatorial election. The group alleged that the Senator who was a former Special Assistant to the kaduna state governor violated the Constitution and the electoral act respectively which clearly nullified his said victory during the polls by receiving his salary in the month of February 2019 which is clearly the month presidential and the National Assembly elections was held

The coalition of over 20 civil society organisations and citizens said the Senator has violated section 107 (1) (F) of the electoral act, According to the convener of the group, Abdulaziz Musa Alhassan it is an insult to the Nigerian people that INEC would allow an election in which the constitution and the act governing the election breached He called for due process to be followed in ensuring that justice is served by the judicial Arm in the ongoing Tribunals

"We've done a petition to INEC. There has never been a time when a decision was reversed. Despite that, what we are saying is that this decision did not settle well with the people."Where there is a violation of any act of the constitution there is definitely a penalty because our constitution is supreme, so why was INEC in such a hurry to announce the result of the 2019 Kaduna Central Senatorial election despite alarm raised by the public about the violation?" Abdulaziz queried.

He condemned the use of arbitrary powers by some influential elements on the day of election, saying the presence of soldiers during the polls  also violated the law. The convener also states that if the electoral body failed to yield to the petition of the group, it would occupy the INEC headquarters in Abuja.

They said that in the spirit of transparency, INEC must open its back end servers to stakeholders.

The Northern Students Support for Atiku also asked that the thugs who harassed voters and fellow Nigerians in Kaduna Central be made to account for their crime.

"This brazen impunity should not be allowed to stand unchallenged, otherwise, amongst other things, our democracy will be dead forever. The electoral process is the beacon of democracy and remains so. Elections must not only be credible, but must be seen as credible. The sham of an election which took place on the said date and the subsequent declaration leaves so much to wonder about credibility," it stressed.
