When will it go viral? The menace of leaked private chats

Image
By; Marzuq Ungogo Every now and then, a recorded phone call or private voice chat finds its way into the internet. I am not sure about the statistics from other parts of the world, but the rate at which private audios leak in Northern Nigeria is very alarming. Unfortunately, the issue is even more widespread with text chats being “screenshot” and shared. To be very clear, my concern doesn’t include efforts to catch corrupt government officials red-handed or criminals. I am talking about chats between two private citizens. The most embarrassing of the leaked audios recently were phone calls between the overzealous and controversial Sheikh Abduljabbar Kabara and several Kano ulamah. Apparently, the sheikhs would call one another and secretly press a record button. There are many other instances, but it appeared one of the people in the conversations always recorded and shared them. How the voice notes or audio recordings got leaked into public space is surprising, because the leak ...

Re: LEAKED AUDIO: BLIND DESPERATION OF FALSEHOOD PEDDLERS

Image
By S. Manchi 8 The desperation of the peddlers of misleading and malicious information about the person  of Rtd Rear Admiral Tahir Yusuf is becoming obvious and alarming by the passage of every week. Their pay masters would stop at nothing to ensure that a noble and well respected senior citizen of Nigeria like Tahir is taken down like a weak castle , but alas!  Their  failure is obvious and imminent. Their antics are not only laughable but disgusting. A more worrisome side of the story is how these crass ignoramuses chose to stoop so low to the extent of employing fraud stars and 419ers to help them doctor a purported voice call alleging an arrangement to scuttle legal processes by diverting funds in tranches. Their resolve to include the Attorney General of the Federation and EFCC Chairman  into their petty allegations is perturbing, mind-boggling and highly delusional. As concerned citizens who believe in credibility, we have verified carefully and found ou...

Set the Bar High and Achieve Excellence

Image
By: Marzuq Ungogo The university where I had my undergraduate studies had two sets of bars: C and E. While medical/veterinary/pharmacy students needed a minimum of C (50%) to pass a course, students from other faculties could pass a course with a minimum of E (40%). Due to this higher requirement and other demands, medical/veterinary/pharmacy faculties were called “Bermuda Triangle”. Funny enough the buildings of those three faculties in Ahmadu Bello University are in close proximity and indeed formed a clear triangle. In a grand scheme of things, students from ‘Bermuda Triangle’ aimed and prayed for at least a C in all courses. At least a catenation C-C-C-C…., as we joked. “Allah ko C-C—“. On the other hand, students from other parts of the university worked and prayed for E. An exhausted student would often shout “Allah ko E-E-E”. The trend in commitment and effort between the 2 sets of students was clear. It was so clear in the university library and night reading rooms that s...

How to urgently fix insecurity in Northern Nigeria

Image
by:  Ahmed Adamu, PhD Since the recent exacerbation of terrorism in northern Nigeria, there have not been serious legal actions to punish the culprits. There should be an emergency court for trying the criminals and immediately convict them.  There should be a special law that dictates the kinds of punishment for every kind of complicity in banditry and kidnapping. The punishment should be severe and in the public view. It will serve as a deterrent to others who might be tempted to be involved in any kind of terrorism. The government cannot fix this level of insecurity in a short while, that is why the citizens have to come in.  For northern Nigeria, there should be an independent body or forum that will unite the expertise and resources of all active and retired professionals and elites from the region.   The forum will be independent of the government and should have a structure down to the local government levels. It will be managed by highly respected...

Sokoto Carnage: Why (Dr) Nastura is different

Image
. By: Usman M. Ilelah. I am writing this piece highly worried and deeply concerns over the recent carnages in Sokoto State and the North West in particular. Our State is traumatic and still in shock over the inhuman and satanic killings of our brothers in sisters while on transit. This is happening in a region that has the President of Federal Republic of Nigeria and 19th States Northern Governors,Members of the Federal Executive Council, Highly renowned Islamic clerics and Countless traditional rulers.  On thing that make me feel very optimistic is that (Dr) Nastura Ashir Sherrif was citing him along the Sokoto renowned Sokoto cleric Sheirk Bello Yabo. I am confident that the duo meeting will in the overall interest of Nigerians who's future keep looming in the air and certainly he has proven beyond speeches that is in indeed a different personality when compared to the current crop of leaders. We are unfortunate to find ourselves in a system that lost it moralitiy in Human...

Quelling the APC Crises

Image
By: Sani Danaudi Mohammed  According to political analysts, flagrant impunity and reckless imposition of candidates against the will and wishes of its teeming members across the length and breadth of Nigeria were the major factors that contributed to the defeat of the opposition People Democratic Party (PDP) by the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2015. Formed with the major objective of building the Nigeria’s democratic institutions that will make it compete very favourably with its contemporaries across the globe, the PDP had held sway over the nation for sixteen consecutive years. Faithful to its political ideology, the PDP demonstrated unwavering commitment to the growing of the nation’s economy, improvement of the citizens’ welfare and development of infrastructure.  However, in spite of its aggressive drive for the political and economic development of the nation, the PDP was roundly criticized for its unbridled corrupt tendencies. This sparked off pu...

In the north, their leaders are untouchable

Image
By Haruspice  In the north, their leaders are very lucky; they give no account to anyone and the citizens never see anything wrong with them. See, a state came under the attack of mad killers and 42 people were blazed in fire - the state has a governor, deputy, speaker, lawmakers, chairman, councillor and traditional leaders- guess what? To date, I'm not sure any of the mentioned has visited the infamous area yet these are they people voted for! In the North exists all the heads of security agencies, their people jubilated when they were announced. Have you seen their appointments translating into a secure region? Of course not, but they live fat and comfortable and yet get the hailing and ululation of their people. Very lucky leaders you have in the north. Once in power, they disconnect from their people and continue to live a new life of non-accountability. You see the north, their leaders are very lucky, that is why no one dares question the aloofness of their leaders but...

Group withdraws call to suspend NPA Boss Koko, sues for his confirmation

Image
By: Tijjani Ibrahim. An anti-corruption group, Nigerians United Against Corruption has withdrawn its initial call for the suspension of Mr. Muhammad Bello Koko, acting Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA). The group told newsmen at a press conference that it was misled by spurious and false data in alleging the NPA chief of corruption, and has therefore resolved to recant same in view of superior arguments. “Gentlemen of the press, you will recall that we called a Press Conference during the week to call for the suspension of the current Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) owing to a misleading data we have that alleges the involvement of the MD in some shady deals. As a responsible body of patriotic Nigerians, the Nigerians United Against Corruption movement is one that has never shied away or submit to cowardice when it comes to exposing corrupt individuals in Civil Service, Public Service and even the Private Sector. As an anti-corruption vangu...
