#NotToYoungToRun Bill : A Reinforcing Pillar For “Monarchical Democracy

#NotToYoungToRun Bill : A Reinforcing Pillar For “Monarchical Democracy ”! Jubilation was all we did when the NotTooYoungToRun bill was signed into law, less did we know that it was just a deceptive tool that will enable – with precision – the reinforcement of what I call “Monarchical Demcracy”. An average youth in Nigeria surely can’t contest given the current debilitating exorbitance in the cost of running. You don’t get a nomination form for less than a million naira (for offices affected by the #NTYTR bill) , how do you expect an average Nigerian youth to afford that when he is busy thinking of what to eat tomorrow or where to get school fees from. I was once engaged in a conversation with a friend where he opined that the key code to this country’s success and development is for the youths to actively partake in active politics, he absolutely was right but out of rational thinking, I sarcastically asked “Do we have money? ” , and we all laughed off. The devastating M...

Politics Kwankwasiyya supporters defect to APC, burn red caps

Image
Supporters of the Kwankwasiyya group, under the auspices of Tricycle Riders Association of Nigeria, Kano State chapter, have dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for All Progressives Congress (APC). The defection coincided with the day, the national leader of Kwankwasiyya, Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, declared his ambition, in Abuja, to run for president in the 2019 general elections. The defectors, who were received at the Sani Abacha Indoor Stadium by the APC state chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas, burnt hundreds of red caps, one of the symbols of the Kwankwasiyya movement. The leader of the defectors, Sani Sharu Dala, said they dumped the PDP and Kwankwasiyya courtesy of the laudable youth empowerment programmes the APC-led government had been introducing since it assumed office in 2015. Receiving the defectors, Abbas, who told them that the APC is their home, added that they were misled to join the PDP for someone else’s personal interest.

The ex-minister, who was represented by his Campaign Director of Publicity, Sola Atere, said, “What they are saying was way back in 2015. Things have changed. When you have not been in power, you can make all sorts of forecasts. Now the scenario has changed. Nigerians have seen to what extent the APC government can perform.”  Source : . Daily trust

Politics: I’ll restructure Nigeria – Kwankwaso

Image
A former governor of Kano State, Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, yesterday declared his presidential bid on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2019 general elections. Kwankwaso, a former Defence Minister, while delivering his address in Abuja, blamed the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for not putting an end to Boko Haram and herdsmen killings in the country.  “There is absolutely no excuse whatsoever for killings by Boko Haram insurgents, herdsmen, crop farmers, kidnappers, human traffickers and abductors. We will provide an atmosphere where there will be security, safety, serenity and sanity. “Nigeria in recent years has witnessed a weak economic performance due to tight economic policies and failed institutional supervision, especially as it relates to growing small enterprises that should in the long run result in larger ventures to anchor our economic prosperity. “The constant misuse of security apparatus will stop immed...

Change and leadership in Nigeria

Image
Change and leadership in Nigeria                     In a strive to fulfill human needs as world’s largest black Nation, Nigeria’s 58 years has been a period of mixed happenings; the military coups, civil wars and other  social, political and economic instabilities. Back from the issue of structural Adjustment Programme of 1983, Annulment of June 12 elections; the Obasanjos third term Agenda, there was never an issue that generated as many waves in Nigerian politics like the change slogan of 2015. Several writers defined change in their own terms, but simply put change is a process of moving from one thing to another, it could be from good to worst or vice –versa while leadership is ideally service to humanity, but change in the context of Nigerian leadership is an agitation for effective governance. With respect to this, my write up will focus on the present administration and way forward. From available data, it could be d...

LEADERS OF TOMORROW

Image
Youths are the back-bone of any society. They are the main labour force – productive force – upon whom almost the entire social activities rely. Thus, they are cardinal to societal survival and determinant of its future. For if you want to know the future of any society, look at its youths. Nigeria, a blessed nation, is said to have the highest number of youths on the basis of 15 years to 35 years of age in the world, even though in Nigeria the age range is 18 years to 35 years, amounting to almost 67 million (NBRRI, 2017) of the estimated 182-190 million of the population of the country (NPC, 2017; NPOPC, 2017). This statistics may excite an analyst that Nigerian future is ascertain and bright. But this is just from the surface. Taking a deeper look is hard not to come to grief. In the dawn of ‘not too young to run,’ youths – leaders of tomorrow – are almost completely absent in the political scene or rather, at least far at the periphery; relegated to mere voting and thuggery; embe...
